Meet Your Faculty - Professor Windy Dees
The faculty who teach the University of Miami’s online courses come from different backgrounds and are experts in vastly different fields, but they all have one key character trait in common: they share a deep sense of responsibility to equip students with the tools needed to be successful. In a new series of blog posts, we will be putting a spotlight on faculty members from different UOnline graduate programs. First up, Professor Windy Dees, Ph.D.
Professor Dees is an expert on event sponsorships, marketing and branding, a frequent contributor to sport and tourism research journals, a well-respected sport industry influencer and avid tweeter. In fact, she was recently recognized as a top social influencer among sport business professionals. She is also a top-ranked professor for the online Master’s of Sport Administration program at the University of Miami.
A professor at UM since 2010, Dr. Dees completed her undergraduate degree at Rollins College where she was an All-American tennis player. She received a master’s degree in Sport Management from the University of Florida and a doctoral degree in Sport Management from Texas A&M University.

“I think her willingness to listen and advise, as well as her invaluable insight in the fields that she teaches make her an outstanding professor.” – Leslie Fitzpatrick, graduate Master’s in Sport Administration, Former World Cup Soccer Player Trinidad & Tobago.
As a professor, Dr. Dees is dedicated to helping her students succeed in the sport industry. She frequently introduces them to her own network of industry insiders and experts and creates a classroom environment where students are encouraged to build contacts among their peers.
“If you come into the program without sport industry experience you will create a network right away with peers who work in the sport industry." - Professor Windy Dees, Ph.D.
Professor Dees ensures her online students receive the same quality of education that can be found on-campus. She frequently engages with students via the online learning portal and hosts online office hours. She also encourages students to visit the campus in-person for events such as student orientation or the Miami Sport Industry Conference.
“Dr. Dees' classes are unique, in that she communicates with each student as if you are in her classroom. From my personal experience, my emails were all answered within 24 hours with most being answered the same day. In Dr. Dees' courses, students just don't receive grades, students receive knowledge and constructive feedback on ways to improve. Dr. Dees definitely pushes her students to utilize critical thinking skills.” – Stephen Bashore, graduate Master’s in Sport Administration, General Manager at Buffalo Run Casino and Resort.
As a UOnline faculty member, Professor Dees is there for her students and dedicated to their success inside and outside of the classroom.
